My best weightloss advice

Now I don't consider myself an expert or anything even remotely close to one. NO WAY! But I know what worked for me when I lost all my weight so I thought I might share my best tips and advice and hopefully I might be able to help someone.


  1. Keep a food diary. No matter if you are doing Weight Watchers, Calorie Counting etc, keeping track of what you are eating helps in so many ways. First of all you are able to tell how much you are eating and stay within your limit. Also you can go back and look at the good weeks and see what you ate. It also is a mental thing that makes you accountable, it's in writing so you can't hide it, even if it's just from yourself.
  2. Get a set of kitchen scales and measuring cups, spoons and jug. Measure everything liquid, weigh everything else. Eye balling portions won't work. 1 chicken breast can be 300g another can be 150g. Weigh everything. 
  3. Keep healthy snacks on hand all the time. If you work take fresh fruit, nuts, string cheese, greek yogurt on hand in case you get hungry. Pack your lunch if you can. It's easier knowing what is in your lunch than taking a chance at a cafe etc.
  4. Treat yourself occasionally. Depriving yourself of everything forever will not work, plus you will be miserable. I allow myself some ice cream occasionally, but I portion it out, track it then enjoy. Once in a while I treat myself to a full fat, with whip latte from Starbucks. It's a good thing the Pumpkin Spice latte is only available for a few months!
  5. Find a support system. Wether it's your partner, a friend or an online community. It helps so much having others who know what you are going though.
  6. Don't let 1 bad meal ruin a whole day. Or 1 day ruin a whole week. Or one whole... well you know what I mean. I heard a quote once that has always stuck with me. "If you trip on a stair but don't fall, you wouldn't just throw yourself down the rest of them would you?" It's so true. If you have a bad day, don't sweat it. In the scheme of things, it really won't make much of a blip. Just dust yourself off and get back on that horse.
  7. Reward yourself with non food rewards. Even if you have a tight budget, go to Goodwill or a local thrift store with $20. You can find some great things and hopefully in smaller sizes too :)
  8. Take pride in how you look. If you do your hair and make-up you will feel great, which gives you confidence and that will help you keep on track.
  9. Try new things. Experiment with new recipes. New foods. Try different vegetables and fruits. The internet has millions of recipes. Don't be afraid to branch out!
  10. Have fun! Don't think of it as hard work. Make it part of your life. Embrace it. Embrace the healthy new you!

Official weigh in

Ok so I hopped on the new scales this morning and weighed in at the above weight. I compared with the old scales and they only showed a 0.1lb difference (this time Lol) so I am assuming I have lost a couple of pounds already since Wednesday's weigh in of 165lb. Yay!

But I am setting this weight this morning as my first initial weigh in, as it was on the new scales.

Not great, but it's something to work on!

So wish me luck! Here I go! It's 8 weeks to Thanksgiving. I would love to be as close to 150lb by then. So that's 12.4lb in 10 weeks. It's possible!


BOT Day 4

Another great day! I can't believe I allowed myself to go off track for so long when staying on track really isn't that hard. But I guess I can't dwell on the past. Just need to look forward.

So this morning I was talking to Billy about my scales and we were having to go to Target for a few things and he said we could look at scales there and if there was one reasonably priced we would get one. So we did! I posted all about it earlier today with the link to what I got. I can't wait to weigh in officially tomorrow morning on it. It does body fat and all that other stuff too, which is cool.

I actually wanted to go for a walk today but it's been raining all day and night :( Hubby was sent home from work before even starting as it was a really low box count and they had too many people on. So that was cool, but I was a little worried, because for some reason I eat more when he is around. But I was really good and kept within my calories!

My hubby rocks!

So I posted the other day that my scales are not accurate here at home. Which really puts a bit of a strain on losing weight. Because it's hard to keep track of weight if it's not accurate.

So I was talking to him about it this morning and he said I could get a new set! We were going to Target anyway so we would get one while there.

It reads body fat etc aswell which my old one didn't. It also logs your height, age etc. So pretty snazzy.

I will be weighing in on it formerly tomorrow morning as I had already eaten when we got it, but I did test it with a 4lb bag of sugar and it was spot on. YAY!

So here's to accurate numbers!

Baby weight

I recently joined a weight loss support group with lots and lots of mummies trying to drop the extra pounds they got while pregnant.

I have never experienced this. Huh? you ask. Yes I am a mother. But the weight I gained when I was pregnant with Ashley really dropped off fast.

I breastfed and was 18. Plus I was pretty darn healthy back then. My mother's influence was still fresh on my mind with my eating. Plus I was on a strict budget, so take away etc wasn't in the budget.

Before I got pregnant with Ashley I was a tiny wee thing:

I was 17 when I fell pregnant and weighed no more than 100-105lbs/45kg. I was really healthy during my pregnancy. I ate very well, I lived with my sister who is EXTREMELY healthy so she made sure I ate good food. But I gained a LOT of weight. The doctor assured me it was mainly water weight and not uncommon.

But I balloned up to about 165lb/75kg. I was so worried I would never lose the weight. I had never been overweight before.

After I had Ashley though, the weight just started dropping off. By the time he was a few months old I was back down to around 105-110lb/45-50kg

I kept the weight off for about 3 years. So there is no way I can blame any of my weight issues on having a baby. Which kind of stink! hehehe

BOT Day 3

Still hanging in there. For some reason doing calorie counting over Weight Watchers I think I am eating less. Hopefully that will work in my favour! I really want to start some form of exercise. It's hard though as the roads around here aren't walk/run friendly and getting to the gym is hard without a drivers license and a hubby who works third shift.

But hopefully we will be able to remedy the license issue soon. We need to fix the brakes on the car first. Billy said there is no way he would let me drive it the way it is at the moment.

Anyway today was kind of hard. What I had for lunch really didn't do anything for me and by dinner time I had the shakes. So I won't be having that again!

After dinner I was still hungry but I waited a couple of hours, then had a couple of weetabix. That lunch really messed me up. There was just nothing to it.

365 update

So I am still going with my 365 Self Portrait project, I just stopped posting on here. No one was commenting so I just assumed no one really cared that much about it.

But I am up to day 271, haven't missed 1 day! So proud of myself. But I honestly have hated the project the past month or so. With the weight gain I just don't want to be in front of the camera. Plus I haven't been doing  my hair or make-up so I feel even more yuck. But I am pushing through it and will finish, although the photos won't be as good as I would like them to be.

My scales

Are sooooo not accurate! Argghh! This morning I got on and got 3 different readings. So I thought I would test them. I got on with a 4lb bag of sugar, then got on without it. It showed a 2.8lb difference. Ugh!

So keeping track of my weightloss is going to be hard because I won't be getting an accurate number. This is one thing I miss about my WW meetings. Having a reliable scale to weigh on.

I guess I will just have to use them though. I have no other option at the moment. But it's REALLY frustrating.

Yep, that's what the scale said this morning. Down 4 lbs over night! WTH!? 

Seriously though, I am thinking I must have been retaining a ton of fluid yesterday! But still, NICE!

So today was another day on track. Under calories and not to hard at all. The nights are the hardest because I am bored and that's when I want to eat. But I am trying to make myself busy with things.

Here is my food diary. I wanted to also add, the photo quality isn't as good as they used to be as I know just use my iPhone instead of my good camera. It took so much time editing and uploading them, then resizing them for the blog. Plus I always have my phone with me when I am eating to log it all.

BOT Day 1

The BOT in the title stands for Back on Track. Which is what I am from now on!

So I am up 20+lbs. Not good. BUT I am not going to let it be any higher than that. Today I started tracking again and eating well. I will be using MyFitnessPal. I will have to pay for Weight Watchers now that I am over goal so I am not going to rejoin until I am at goal again.

So my daily limit is 1350 calories. I won't be tracking 0 point veggies, but I will be tracking fruit at the moment. 

I was really worried I would be starving all day and feel cruddy but I did fine and I was really pumped! Lately I have felt so sluggish and tired and down so I was really worried, but it was much better than suspected.

So here is what I ate today:

Facing up to reality

I have been putting off this post for a while. I really don't want to share. But I know I have to.

I have gained about 15-20lb. I don't know the exact amount as it's been a couple of days since I weighed myself and the last time it was 162lb. My lowest weight was 143lb.

There I said it.

It makes me feel sick to share that. It makes me feel so ashamed and embarrassed. It also makes me really angry at myself. I worked so hard for a year to drop 65lb and in about 4 months I have gained almost a third of that back.

I have been eating terribly. Not tracking or going to my WW meetings.

One of the reasons I stopped going was my wonderful leader retired. She waited till I got my Lifetime and left. She wanted to see me succeed before going. And the new lady is AWFUL! Ugh I cannot stand her. And there isn't another meeting I can go it.

Still not an excuse. I know the program. I can do it at home. But I didn't. I just stopped caring. And now my skinny jeans don't fit and it's getting cold here. I have about 4 items of clothes that fit me at the moment. It's disgusting.

I keep telling myself, tomorrow I will start again. And then I don't. I don't know why it's so hard to get back on track. I really don't know. It seemed so easy before.

Not having my drivers license is starting to affect me also. Billy has been working really long shifts and not having many days off in between so with him gone all night and asleep all day, I have been stuck here at home a lot. And it's started to take it's toll.

Basically it's the cost of putting me on the insurance that has stopped us from getting me my license, because in this state, you have to have auto insurance before you get your license. And because I have no driving history here, it's high.

But Billy & I talked about it the other day and we are going to try our best to budget for it. But of course now his brakes on his car need fixing so that's another expense we didn't foresee.

So a lot of things have been getting me down. My weight, being stuck at home a lot, money, missing my sisters wedding in Australia, being homesick etc

But I really need to get my head in the right place again and focus on the weight. Because if I don't I will be back where I started from.

Hey everyone!! Thanks so much for stopping by and following my blog! I have been a bit slack in updating, things are a little crazy for me right now, but I am going to try REALLY hard to be a better blogger, among other things.

Tackle it Tuesday

So I have been wanting to organise my drawers for a while now. I have space issues in my dressers and closet and am always trying different things to make the most of the space I have.

I finally found some great space saving ideas that also look cool.

First of all for my underwear drawer I came up with a great way to use the Benji Boxes I won back in Australia for my shoes. I bought them with me in the move as they flattened to fit in my suitcases.

I have had them in my closet not doing much of anything because I have my shoes in a hanging shoe rack on the back of the door.

So I took 4 of them and used them to organise my underwear drawer.

It worked out perfectly as there was just enough space left on the side for my corsets. 

Then I organised my t-shirt drawer in a way that made it so I can see every shirt that is in there and they fit better too.

So now my dresser is so much neater and organised and it's so much easier to find things.
