Weigh-in Wednesday

I didn't take a photo of the scales this morning as we had so much to do I just jumped on them before getting dressed and didn't even think about it.

Not that it matters anyway. I lost 0.1lb

Whoop de do.

I was SO GOOD this week! I am blaming TOM. Even though it was finished today.

Anyway. Onward I go.

Happy Halloween!

We weren't sure whether to expect any Trick or Treaters as we have never had any come before BUT there are more kids in the neighbourhood this year so we turned the lights on outside and waited.

But we only got 1 little girl. We did dress up though:

Ashley

Billy had to work so he didn't join in.

And now we have all of this left.

Questions answered

Ok so a few days ago I post that readers could ask me anything and I got a bunch of questions. So here are my answers.

Person 1:

How far from town do you live?
The closest town is about 10 minute drive but it's pretty small, there are 2 supermarkets and that's about it. The closest place for real shopping is about 20-30 minutes drive depending on which direction. The closest city, Charlotte, is about 45 minutes drive.

Your photos seem to indicate that there are not many people around where you live, do you feel isolated at times?
I live in a tiny little neighbourhood that probably consists of about 40 houses/trailers. All around us are farms. It used to all be farmland until someone developed this small area for a residential area.I feel very isolated, mainly because I don't have my drivers licence and Billy sleeps most of the day and works nights so I am at home a lot. With Ashley at school I spend a lot of time by myself. If I had my license I could get out of the house and do more, but it's just not possible at the moment.

Do you feel a sense of home where you are? Or do you which you still lived in Australia?
My husband and his parents have been really great at making me feel at home here. In a perfect world we would live in Australia. But life is never perfect.

Do you have a BFF other than your hubby?
I hardly have any friends never mind a best friend. It's hard to make friends when you can't go anywhere.

How is your reading list going?
Well I have been reading just not what's on that list! Lol I need to fix that!

Do you like the four seasons where you are?
I love them all except Summer. YUCK!

Do you miss your mum?
I do but I have always lived far away from her since I was 15, so I am used to it. But I used to see her every year or so but this has been the longest time I haven't seen her.

Person 2:

What did you do when you hit a plateau with your weight - I feel I have done that - how can I get motivated again?
I was really lucky and never really hit a plateau. I had bad weeks but that was usually my own fault. I have heard some great tips for breaking plateaus though: changing your exercise routine, adding more or changing what you're doing. Change your food, eat more at 1 meal, less for another. Things like that. Give your body a shock.

Person 3:

What's the biggest cultural difference do you think? I honestly think it's religion. Living in Australia I probably knew 5 people in my whole life who attended church and half of them were not Christian or Catholic. Here Religion is a big thing. It's very in your face.

Thanks to those who asked questions!! I loved answering them! If anyone else has any more, please leave them in the comments. I take comments from everyone, you don't have to have an account, you can be anonymous or use the Name/URL option and leave the URL field blank. Thanks!

Salad

IMG_3644

So I LOVE salads and I eat them a lot. I try to have the ingredients in the fridge for salads all the time, but I usually run out before it's shopping time again.

Also salads can take a long time to make from scratch every day so I have a couple of tricks to make it a little easier.

I have a standard salad "base" that makes up about 2/3's of my whole salad. I have this all ready to go so all I have to do is add a few other things and viola! SALAD!

First and most importantly is my arugula (rocket). I get this at Trader Joe's as it's the only place around here that I have found it.

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

It doesn't last very long in that bag though, it sweats and gets all slimy. So I came up with a way for it to last quite a while. I get a large air tight container like this:

Then I layer in paper towels and the arugula like this:

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

This keeps it getting too much moisture and it stays fresh for way longer. It usually lasts almost 2 weeks like this.

Then I get these:

The 2 bagged items are also from Trader Joe's. The red cabbage I usually get from the local produce market. I chop up the cabbage and put all of packs and the cabbage in a large ziplock bag and shake it up so it's all mixed up.

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

I keep this on top of the bowl of arugula in the fridge and that is my salad base. I then add other veggies when I am making my salad like:

Celery, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper (capsicum), banana peppers, raw broccoli, avocado.

Toppings I sometimes add are:

real bacon bits, sunflower seeds, shredded sharp cheddar, grilled chicken, tuna.

Dressings:

balsamic vinegar, light ranch, vinaigrette.

Here are some photos of salads I have made:

Week catchup

Ok so I just wanted to post about some things we got up to this week and share some photos and stuff.

Earlier in the week we went shopping and Billy let me get a Heart Rate Monitor so I can accurately work out my calories burnt while I am walking and eventually maybe running.

My new HRM

297/365 - Hanging with my man
Heading to the store :)
It's been gorgeous weather here all week.

Untitled

Some bad news, our dryer isn't working at the moment so we had to visit the local Laundromat and dry a bunch of clothes. That was fun... NOT. But Billy was with me and he kept me entertained. We played 20 questions. He kicked my butt.

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

I realised a couple of days ago I hadn't touched my camera in about 2 weeks! I was shocked! I have been taking my 365 shots with my phone. I feel so LAZY!! So yesterday I went outside and took some shots. Nothing amazing but I will still share because it's been so long!

I had a great loss this week. I lost 3.3lb/1.5kg. Pretty happy about that!

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

Today I used my HRM for the first time and did an almost 1.5 mile walk. It felt really good and I actually wanted to keep going. I think having the HRM helps mentally because I can see my heart rate and all the other info and it makes me feel like I am doing something.

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

After my walk I chilled on the couch and got kitty love!

300/365

Billy has to work up until next Friday now. So I will be so bored and lonely BUT I always eat better when he isn't here. He makes me comfortable so I get lazy. I eat when I am comfortable.

We are hoping to get up with friends on his 4 days off to go and see Silent Hill 2 and also other friends to hang out!! We miss our friends heaps! We very rarely get to see them because of his work schedule.

Hope every had a great week! Here's to the weekend!
